Printer’s devices on both titles, 64 maps, engraved by Girolamo Porro, of which 33 devoted to Europe, 20 to Asia, 6 to Africa and one to America, besides 4 world maps. Small repairs to first title and last leaf. Occasional browning.

First edition in Italian, edited and corrected by Giovanni Antonio Magini and translated from his Latin edition of 1596, also printed in Venice, into Italian by Leonardo Cernoti. Renown geographer Magini corrected Ptolemaeus’ traditional schemes and modernized the descriptions of all locations with exhaustive commentaries. Rarer B variant, with the full-page engraved double-hemisphere map of the world Orbis terrae compendiosa descriptio between D1 and D2 leaves, often missing.
